Cloud ID What is and Why

Cloud ID is an idea I have about a digital world.  It’s about a gateway to one’s entire life that has anything to do with anything digital.  For an example, say you wrote somewhere on someone’s blog, you downloaded an app, you used a Mac at home, a PC at work, oh that game you played on your Playstation/Xbox or whatever, or that book you read on a Kindle that you borrowed from a friend, oh wait, the contact you called and you wish you remember when and what you talked about.  Isn’t there a way to connect your life in the digital jungle that we sort of live in now and not have to remember where you stuff is or on what device you got it, used it, and forgotten about two seconds ago?????  This is where Cloud ID comes in.  One ID that is the key to your digital life beyond the 4 walls that surrounds you.  It is you that is connected to everything online. Forgive me, just to be perfectly clear, i’m not talking about a web browser that remembers your names from a form you filled out some time ago on some website or your history/shortcuts to past websites you visited. I’m saying whatever that is digital is linked and interactive with whatever else digital. Nevermind storage capacities, it’s unlimited. Never forgets or grows old. Lives beyond your natural life spend.   Sorry no reset button though. It’s pointless. You can’t screw this thing up. There ain’t a power button on this one.  Each day is an accumulation from the day before it. Think of a continuum with all the information that you ever touched or worked on. This is a world without boundaries. Call me crazy, but it is not too far far away in the distant future. History has it that people were searching for elements in nature when taken makes the person live forever and to never grow old.  I think they were searching for this.  The formula to digitally catalog, reuse, create, re-appropriate, every bit and byte of that person into constructs of metadata ready for reassembly at any point on anything digital.  Care to share your thoughts on this?  Where do you see yourself in the digital frontier 10yrs from now?

Problem with Today’s Endless Apps

The problem is that despite having yes there is an app for that, none of the gazillion apps actually communicate with one another. Why is this a problem? Instead of needing a single app to complete a task, one needs a multitude of apps to complete the cycle. This is annoying and time wasting. It’s like going back to the old PC days where sharing data is impossible where each PC is its own island.

There needs to be an open storage/database platform for software and apps to store and sync user data across all devices. And there needs to be a way for the user data be shared with the user’s permission amongst all the apps/software using this open data storage platform. Google, where is the algorithm for this data array. I know it can be done and if you build it they will come.

Chrome OS Review Discussion

Chrome OS Review & Discussion

I have been patiently waiting for the Chrome OS for more than a year, guess what, my wish came true yesterday afternoon. I received my very own Acer A700 Chromebook to experience it first hand. It took a little getting used to at first for things like the button-less mousepad, the added search button, and the minimalist approach of the operating system itself. I’d like to share with you here my review of the Chrome OS and please join the discussion by leaving a comment.

What I love about the Chrome OS
1. As promised from videos and other reviews I’ve read, it takes no time to load and no time to shut off
2. The web (the limited version) doesn’t come any closer to this than anything else I’ve used in the past including a smartphone
3. Chrome browser continuity between different devices
4. Ever upgrading and trouble free operations

What I fear about the Chrome OS
1. It’s not meant for anything else but to consume the web
2. Development cycles to maturity
3. Offer limited scope of the web and/or compatibility issues with Chrome browser
4. The one size fits all model by overly simplifying the PC experience

Final Thoughts
I’d like to believe that the Chrome OS is more than just a browser with an on/off switch. But quite frankly, it is all that it is inside a machine. It doesn’t make the web easier to use nor does it add to the overall web experiences. We have enough browsers that offer us a view to the web already, why open yet another window to the web when we are now living in the web. I expect Google to come up with an OS that connect us together in the web. Our voices need to be heard, our experiences need to be shared, and a tool that does it all and does it well. Sorry, we aren’t there yet Google with this…

How Would You Change Google+

google+I know Google+ is not official yet, but for the currently 10+ million beta testers (myself included) who have cordially been invited, what’s your impression of it and how would you change Google+?

I’ll just a say a few points to start the discussion:

1. It seems Google+’s is yet another way to blog about something, how does it make me more likable, find friends/readers, connect with other people who uses Google+ that share common interests or thoughts.

2. No way can Google+ address the identity issue at its current state. I’m of many roles I play in my life, I don’t want different profiles to represent me, I need one profile that represents all of me and be able to interact with my “circles” of life in such.

3. There will be a 95% noise to a 5% interest ratio for me with the feeds. Please Google, I don’t need to play God, just find me a way to give me what I want. I can see Gmail is starting to address this issue already…maybe it can be done with feeds?

4. Google+ isn’t for a business entity, but at some point it needs to be and the Google team is very well aware of this.

Try email or mention us on Twitter, you might just earn yourself a cordial and exclusive invitation to Google+.

PC Cooled by Liquid System Necessary?

Interestingly, we have been getting calls with people having failed liquid cooled system in their PC. The question is should it be replaced with another liquid cooling system since the machine originally came with one installed. To be clear, liquid cooling hasn’t proven more effective over conventional ball-bearing fans.  The complexity and cost of a liquid cooling system however is easily 3x the norm.  I myself prefer a simpler and more affordable approach of the good old fashion ball-bearing fan/heatsink solution.  It is absolutely unnecessary to have liquid cooling in any PC with today’s off the counter processor made by Intel or AMD. If you want something quieter, get a beefier fan with big blades.
